Geologists about the death of Atlantis
If Atlantis was archipelago then it could sink into the water due to the natural processes of the continents formation. In such case the death of Atlantis could be explained from geological point of view.
The hypothetical death of Atlantis presents very interesting phenomenon. First of all in such case it would be the greatest geological catastrophe that happened during the humanity existence. Secondly it would be the result of the tectonic processes reflection that happened in the limits of two giant continents.
When the continent plates face each other they make the mountains in the line of their meeting. For example, Africa once met the Europe forming the Alps. And in its result the earthquakes take place there till nowadays. The place of plate's collision also became the Mediterranean Sea and in the result it has a lot of underwater mountains.
In such way Atlantis was situated in tectonically active zone that had active volcanoes. If too look at the bottom of the Gibraltar region it is possible to notice the fissure. The seismological data fixed the number of earthquakes as well as paranormal magnetic field and warm stream. And the seismological analysis made in this zone shows that there is the partial collision of the plates in this region that could be the reason of Atlantis death.
This is one of theories made to explain the reason of death of such developed civilization. It proves the words of Plato that described that Atlantis was situated near Gibraltar.
