The volcanic eruption
Scientists discovered that there was no place for Atlantis in the Atlantic Ocean as all extraordinary and interesting objects of its bottom have the natural origins. But at the same time scientists discovered that there was the great volcanic explosion on the island Tira in the Aegean Sea that took place about 3.5 thousand years ago. It was similar to the volcanic eruption that took place on the island of Krakatau in 1883. Maybe it was the biggest geological catastrophe of the Earth history.
The explosion of that time was similar to the power of explosion of about 200 thousand atomic bombs.
The famous scientists even named the date of the explosion that passed in the 1470 BC and says that in the result of the explosion the wave with the height of 260 meters appeared.
During that epoch of volcanic eruption the islands of the Aegean Sea were inhabited by the Minoan civilization. They reached the success in the science, agriculture and crafts. But in the result of the great catastrophe the whole civilization died with its capital on the Crete Island.
According to some scientist the story of this civilization was the base of the story told by Plato. But the Plato's Atlantis is bigger and Plato gives another date of the catastrophe. Scientists explain it by the fact that Plato was always considered to be the historian.
